WASHINGTON (AP) — DC United’s Gabriel Pirani equalized in extra time, and New England goalkeeper Aljaz Ivacic made two crucial saves, resulting in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night.
Pirani found the back of the net just one minute into extra time with a left-footed shot from the outside left of the box that curled into the top left corner.
Shortly after, New England’s Luis Diaz Espinoza won a free kick after drawing a yellow card on Kye Rowles. Wyatt Omsberg then blocked a shot attempt from DC United’s Aaron Herrera from the center outside the box.
New England’s Carles Gil earned a free kick after drawing a yellow card against Boris Enow. DC United’s Randall Leal also picked up a yellow card after fouling Alhassan Yusuf, which led to Ivacic’s save on Jared Stroud’s attempt. Ivacic then denied David Schnegg on the rebound, keeping the score even.
New England’s Luis Diaz Espinoza attempted a right-footed shot from the right side of the box, but it missed to the left as the match came to a close.
Ilay Feingold had previously scored from the center of the box in stoppage time of the first half, giving New England a 1-0 lead.
